Day 2  Taiyuan-Pingyao ( 108 km, 2.5 hours )

Taiyuan railway station pick up and transfer to ancient town Pingyao. Visit Qiao's Mansion on the way. 2 nights in Cui Chenghai hotel.

Located 30 kilometers northwest of Pingyao, the Family Qiao's Mansion 乔家大院 is famous for being the setting of the film Raise the Red Lantern, directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li, which was shot there. There are six courtyards, totaling more than 300 rooms, making a massive impression on all who come to admire the beauty. Family Qiao's Mansion was built by Qiao Guifa, an formerly unknown humble tea merchant who became rich and made this his home. It is considered an architectural masterpiece of ancient China.

Pingyao 平遥 is a Chinese city and county in central Shanxi province. It lies about 715 km from Beijing and 80 km from the provincial capital, Taiyuan. During the Qing Dynasty, Pingyao was a financial center of China. It is now known for its well-preserved ancient city wall, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pingyao still retains its city layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties, conforming to a typical bagua pattern. More than 300 sites in or near the city have ancient ruins. Preserved Ming- and Qing-style residences number close to 4,000. The streets and storefronts still largely retain their historical appearance.
Day 4   Pingyao-Taiyuan-Datong ( 412 km, 6 hours )
In the morning, free time on your own. Hotel pick up, transfer to Taiyuan railway station and take train K7808 13:27/18:43 to Datong. Meet upon arrival at Datong railway station and transfer to hotel. 1 night in Datong Hotel 4* .

Day 5   Datong-Beijing ( 374 km, 6.5 hours )
Full day guided city tour to Hengshan, Hanging temple and Yungang Caves. Transfer to Datong Railway Station and take the overnight train K606 22:48/05:10+1 to Beijing.

Hengshan 恒山, named the Southern Mountain of the Five Sacred Mountains, is located in Hengyang County, the middle part of Hunan Province. It has 72 peaks and extends 150 kilometers, with 800 miles in circumference. The Huiyan Peak is the south end of the peaks, Yuelu Mountain in Changsha City is the north end, and the Zhurong Peak is the highest, with 1,290 meters above sea level. On the top, the Shaolin Temple and the Watching Sunrise Platform are the best scenic spots.
The Hanging Monastery 悬空寺 is a temple built into a cliff near Hengshan Mountain in the province of Shanxi. The closest city is Datong, 65 kilometers to the northwest. Along with the Yungang Caves, the Hanging Monastery is one of the main tourist attractions and historical sites in the Datong area. Built more than 1400 years ago, this temple is unique not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it includes Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian elements. Located at the southern foot of Wuzhou Mountain some 16 km west of Datong City, Shanxi Province, Yungang Grottoes 云冈石窟 were built against the mountain and extend about 1 km (0.62 miles) from east to west. The construction of the caves was started under the auspices of the noted monk Tan Yao in 453 and took 50 years to complete. Some 40,000 people, including the Buddhists from what is present Sri Lanka, contributed to the huge project.
